Online School Tips

Have you been struggling with online school? Do you feel like doing online school is optional and simply don’t want to do it? Well, I think we’ve all felt like that, and I’m here to help you!

Honestly, this may sound cheesy, but you should always start your day by making your bed. It makes you feel like you’ve already completed a task and gives you the motivation to do more throughout your day. You should also make it a point to get up, shower, and get ready each day, even if spending the day at home. This tricks your brain into thinking you have a full day planned and wakes your body.

A trick to help keep up with the work from school and be organized, use a daily planner. Write down all of the due dates for every assignment and check the planner every day. If you don’t have an extra planner, Canvas shows all of your assignments broken down by class, and when each assignment is due. Once you’re organized and aware of what to do that day, find a quiet, well-lit place to do your daily work. You might choose an extra bedroom, study room, or simply a desk in your own bedroom.  We all know that in school the classroom is typically quiet; this is the environment in which your brain is used to learning. If you don’t have a space to do work silently, look into going to a library, cafe, or even a park to get some fresh air.

My final helpful tidbit is to find a study buddy!  You can study for tests, get homework help, or just talk about school with someone, just like if you were actually at school! You could even ask your friends to do Zoom together to work through your assignments. I do this every week and it has helped me stay on track with my work because I have someone to keep me accountable for my productivity. This also helps me feel like this school year is a bit more normal than it actually is because it adds a level of socialization that I know we’re all missing out on while doing hybrid school. Remember, this is temporary, and we’ll all make it through this together!
