Math Counts

Wondering if you should join the Math Team but don’t know how or haven’t even heard of the team?

The Math team is a club that meets after school, competes, and has a good time. All grades are welcome! One thing that you should know is you MUST enjoy completing challenging math problems. To join you don’t have to fill out any sheets or applications, you just need to show up. If you are wanting to ‘sign’ up or go to a meeting, they meet on Mondays from 2:45 till 3:50pm in the seventh-grade hallway, Mrs. Starns’ room (#127).

The Math Team has 3 competitions during the school year:

  1. Math Madness is an on-line, tournament-style competition they do in the fall.
  2. The Math Counts competition is held in February. Math Counts is sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers.
  3. The College of the Ozarks Math League is having a competition that the team is planning on attending later this Spring.

At this year’s Math Counts competition, Cherokee had two students qualify for the State Math Counts Competition! Those two students were Skylor Tisdel a 6th grader and Trey Boyce a 7th grader, they will compete in Columbia on March 7th. Congratulations and good luck gentleman!
