Color Guard is a combination of the use of flags, sabers, mock rifles, and other equipment, as well as ballet, gymnastics, drill team, and the forever long possibility of a concussion. Color guards can be found in high schools, middle schools, universities, and other independent organizations, some of which are related to drum corps. Cherokee is fortunate enough to have a guard in Springfield. The guard has 3 competitions, 1 championship, and 2 performances during their season. In all of their performances, they have gotten “excellent” (the second highest award) and at the championship, they got “superior” (the highest award)! Everybody in our guard has practices on Mondays and Fridays from 6-8:30.

If you want to get involved with guard, don’t be afraid! Auditions are in the fall and everyone is welcome. Auditions are stress-free and unbiased. When you find something you want to do, and that something is guard, don’t be afraid to do what you love!
