The Cherokee Middle School Smoke Signal

Madison Arthur

The Smoke Signal is the newspaper at CMS.

The Cherokee Middle School Smoke Signal is one of the clubs here at Cherokee. Some of you may not be very familiar with what happens “behind the scenes” at the Smoke Signal.

Every Tuesday morning, the Smoke Signal meets at Mrs. Wilson’s room. We typically discuss what we wish to do for our next issue. But, if we are already started our entries, we still meet on Tuesday mornings to see how we’re all doing with the newspaper.

We also receive this lanyard called the “Press Pass”. The Press Pass allows Smoke Signal members to have free access to dances, sports events, and just events in general if you are doing an article on it.

We normally get 2-3 weeks to do our articles, and they must be completed by then.

After our articles are complete, the editor team with go through the articles and ensure there are no grammar mistakes. After the editor team is done revising the articles, the photographer team will go out and find pictures that relate to our articles. Also, on the note of teams, there is a team called the Leadership team. They tend to have after-school meetings to help out with the Smoke Signal web page. They make the layout of the website’s articles and such to make it look how it does.

That is all that the Smoke Signal does. Oh, we also receive pretty cool t-shirts that have “Staff” printed on the top corner of the shirt, and on the back, it says “Smoke Signal Staff, Your News Today”.
