Winter Guard

Color guard is the sport of the arts. Here at Cherokee, we have winter guard which is essentially the same thing. The students on the team rehearse complex choreography as well as toss flags and rifles into the air.

I interviewed one of the team members, Lindsey Fulks and asked what her favorite part of guard is. She said, ”My personal favorite part is getting to meet new people as well as getting to perform in front of people.” Every year, there is a theme to their show. This year, it is Unchain my Heart. They will be dancing along to Unchain my Heart by Hugh Laurie. They will also be performing at our school assembly in March.

The team routinely goes to competition. They go to whatever school is hosting it that day. There is always an assigned spot in every school for each team to get ready.

After they are ready, they stretch and warm up. Then they perform and wait until Kickapoo performs to pull their floor covering out. Their next competition is Saturday, February 10 at Ozark. They also have one on March 3rd at Kickapoo. It would be greatly appreciated by the team members if you came out to support them!
