Coach Gray, one of the best coaches at Cherokee Middle School, is the 7th-grade basketball coach along with Coach Plank. (Who was recently married — we are all excited and happy for her!) Their players do lots of conditioning, and also have practices almost every day. Sadly Coach Gray is spending his last year with us. I asked him, “ What is your favorite thing about the girls this year?” and he responded by saying: “The girls are very personable, hard-working, scrappy and I enjoy being with them in the classroom and on the court.” Coach Gray is a one-of-a-kind coach that we will miss and never forget. His response to my question proves this. After I asked him what his favorite thing was about not just being a coach but also a teacher, he replied by saying “shaping young lives.” When Coach Gray and Coach Plank work together they are unstoppable. This year their exceptional team is undefeated just like many previous years. The girls have one more regular season game on Thursday, December 14th followed by the district tournament the following week. Come support Cherokee and and thank Coach Gray for being so amazing!

I feel like you could have gone into a little more detail. Other than that outstanding report nicely executed.

I loved having coach Gray and Plank as the basketball coaches. They were very uplifting and they kept pushing the team to do better. I don’t think there could have been a better pair of coaches then Coach Gray and Plank. The girls did great and they did not let there lose at the season affect how they act to the other team player. Yes, we had fun moments but at the end of the season, we all cried after the last game in which we did lose to Carver. We were all upset because this year happens to be Coach Grays last girl basketball team and coaches last year here teaching at Cheokee. At the end of the season in the locker room before Coach Gray or Plank came in. I said “Girls I want to let you know. As you girls have grown this year. Not once did I think you would fail. I still don’t. This game scores at the end. Are not the way I will think of you. That team who lost it all at the end. NO, I love you girl and I fell as this year went by I feel as if we grew closer. I know I might not have been the best manager but I want you to know I will always remember this time. When no one cared that I was not popular but you still treated me the same.” Now, as this year goes by I believe the whole team along with Coach Gray and Coach Plank will not forget this season. Girls if you are reading this please remember if you need or want anything I am here for you always. Except if it is BOY problem sorry go to someone else. Glad we had such a great season.
