The Cherokee Band was the only full middle school band to march in the Missouri State Homecoming Parade. For the first time ever, the 8th grade band got to march in a large parade. I got the opportunity to march, but I asked some of the other band kids what they thought. To summarize what they said: “Marching in the parade gave me a chance to see what it would be like in high school. It also gave me a chance to expand my abilities and learn to work together with other musicians.”

As a middle school student, this was an amazing opportunity. We were the only band with all middle school students. At the end of the parade, the Missouri State Band performed for every band that marched. They gave out awards and encouraged us to keep performing. Cherokee got Outstanding Drum Major (1st), and Overall 1st in our division. Most band members will encourage you to stay in band, because you will learn lessons, and create friendships, you would never have before.

I just love that our Band is learning how to march in parades. They sounded so good, like they had been doing that for a long time. Mr. Thomas and Mr. Z are the best – Cherokee is very blessed!

I play for 6th grade Cherokee band, and I can’t wait to march in the parade.

You might not be in the parade. This was the first time Cherokee was in the parade. So don`t get your hopes up Kohen Childs.
