Amazon has delivered (pun intended, haha) a new way to get your packages to your doorstep, or I should say inside your house!

It’s almost Christmas time, Christmas music on the radio, Christmas decorations in stores, and advertisements of Santa coming to your local mall. Another thing is common around Christmas time. Package thefts. Random people are able to come up to your door and snag your package and drive off with the package you, a friend, or a family member paid for.

Amazon has found a way to fix this. They are able to enter your house and drop off a package that you ordered, then close the door and lock it, meaning your package is safe inside your house where no one else can go. It is called “Amazon Key.” Amazon Key is exclusive to Amazon Prime subscribers.

Now some of you may be thinking: “Oh wow! That’s so cool but that sounds like a security problem…” and others agree! The people that deliver the packages straight into your house have been “background checked” and they have even made more security measures, like how Amazon has gotten people to get this security camera called “Amazon Cloud Cam.” The Cloud Cam costs $120, but with it, you can watch, track, and even talk to the person delivering your package. But how would they get inside your house in the first place? Easy! A smart lock will be added and fitted to your door. How would it open? “Amazon Key works by alerting customers by phone when a driver arrives at their home and scans their package. That triggers a signal to the Amazon Cloud that verifies the driver, and then the Amazon Cloud unlocks a smart lock on the front door.” (ABC News) The smart lock can be deactivated at any time. The installation of these two devices is free, but buying both would cost you around $249.99. At least less packages would be stolen.

Other than using Amazon Key for delivery, you can also use it to allow friends and family into your home without using a spare key. Amazon hopes that this new technology may allow providers like housekeepers or pet sitters be allowed into people’s homes.

i belive this is a really grate way for a lot less pakeges to be stolen but there a things like the ring doorbell for enstence. the ring can tell if people are there and you can talk to them. so you could go that way and it is also the cheap way but with the Amazon key you could do this more effiently. so i think this idea is practical.

I have seen part of an advertisement on these and was confused on what it was. I think this Amazon invention is a great idea! 😀
